AWS Announces $5 Billion Investment in South Korean Data Centers
Amazon Web Services will invest over $5 billion in South Korea by 2031, marking the largest foreign direct investment in the country's history. The funds will build AI data centers in Incheon and Gyeonggi, accelerating cloud infrastructure development NEAR Seoul.
AWS CEO Matt Garman confirmed the commitment during a meeting with President Lee Jae Myung at the APEC summit. The MOVE surpasses Amazon's previous $4 billion pledge and forms part of a broader $40 billion APEC regional investment strategy through 2028.
Seven multinational corporations collectively pledged $9 billion in South Korean investments during the summit. The AWS expansion signals intensifying competition in Asian cloud infrastructure markets, with implications for blockchain interoperability and enterprise adoption.
